Spain in Floriade 2012. Edited Package (English)
Maria Teresa Lizaranzu, President of Acción Cultural Española:
Floriade is a thematic international exhibition, which is held every ten years. It is perhaps not well known by the Spanish public but has a great international importance. It is an exceptional showcase, which will allow us to demonstrate the ecological diversity of our country. In collaboration with the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, and our large food industry, Floriade will allow us to present the enormous variety of Spanish production.
Ignacio Ollero. Curator of the Spanish Pavilion at Floriade 2012:
When you approach the Spanish Pavilion, the first thing that surprises you is its external structure and form. This reminds us of the life cycle of plants and links up with Floriade’s slogan, "cradle to cradle". Also, the materials used - wood and organic materials - are easily recyclable. Once the visitor enters the Pavilion, he or she is first struck by the colourful atmosphere, the music and the quality of the videos projected. The way that the natural products are exhibited is also surprising, like hidden treasures in the Pavilion. Spain is the country with the greatest variety of ecosystems in Europe. In the Spanish Pavilion at Floriade 2012, we offer a tour through this natural diversity. So we've divided the country into ten natural regions. In each, we display the region’s landscapes, crops, the products that derive from them, and the most typical dishes that are prepared with those crops. The public asks us where they can get the recipes for those products, and in fact they´re on display here at the Pavilion.
Rogelio Vargas. President of the Spanish Business Circle in the Netherlands:
Floriade is a great opportunity to increase mutual investment. Spanish products currently enjoy a good image in Holland and Floriade is an excellent showcase to strengthen and improve that image. Maybe people do not know, but Holland is the logistical distribution hub of Europe. The largest port in Europe is in Rotterdam, and it’s the gateway to Central Europe. So when a Spanish businessman thinks about Holland, he or she should not just consider the Dutch market, which is 16 million people. Holland is also the gateway to Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. There are times when it is easier to do business in Eastern Europe through Holland than to go directly to Poland or Ukraine. Holland is a country with amazing distribution channels.
Maria Teresa Lizaranzu. President of Acción Cultural Española:
It is a pavilion that we make available to our companies to do business and make presentations. We are also combining this with a programme of events and cultural activities in other Dutch cities.
